It Closes the Curtain

This Sunday May 23 is the grand finale of SMASH one of my favorite series, as I had said before I started watching the series in 2012 and I found stunning from start to finish, the process was figuring out how to run a small sleep to the largest (Broadway) through the difficulties encountered in the preparation of it to achieve the goals one sets, performances by Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee seem great because they represent very well the characters (aspiring be stars of Broadway) and of course the plot something outstanding war between the two, Anjelica Huston and Jack Davenport are fantastic, Anjelica (The Witches) as producer was phenomenal and clear but when he was fighting with her husband, Jack showed another facet course in this series as a director and has many clear as we would have liked the famous relation Derek and Karen that it seems never happen, the character of Debra Messing (Julia) fascinated me because he had many facets as a mother, woman, wife and writer which came out winner in each except for the wife, Christian Borle (Tom) not I liked the whole character especially in the second season because Tom was arrogant attitude to my perception but what I recognize is the courage to follow your tastes not caring what others may think, well all the cast and guest stars was fantastic (Leslie Odom Jr, Savannah Wise, Wesley Taylor, Phillip Spaeth, Jesse L. Martin).

The music is not far behind each and every one of the songs were sensational but my favorites was "Let Me Be Your Star", "They Just Keep Moving The Line" & "I Can't Let Go ", to say just some the feeling of listening every week a new song or cover was wonderful,Now that NBC has canceled this program that gets me down, but of course Katharine & Megan have their own musical careers so they'll keep pending, hundreds of laughs pass next to the follies of Tom & Julia, unforgettable moments after each number played by Ivy & Karen, without leaving aside the problems between Derek & Tom.

SMASH coming to an end but many are resigned to accept that SMASH has come to an end because SMASH is a sensation.

The Stars are not born they are made.

Counting Down to Tony Time!

Like all of you, Downstage Dish was devastated to learn about the news of Kyle Bishop, the young writer of "Hit List." So it's incredible news that Bishop's (and composer Jimmy Collins') statement to the world is Broadway-bound - but in a bizarre twist, thanks to none other than Jerry Rand, who's bankrolling its transfer uptown from the Manhattan Theatre Workshop. It's safe to say all previous speculation about this year's Tony nominations can be tossed out of the nearest window - it's a brand-new game now! 

Judging by the still-building buzz and the proliferation of self-styled "Hit"-sters, "Hit List" is the show to beat, that much is certain - but Act Break wonders if the infamously volatile director Derek Wills has a handle on his actors, and himself. Some recent shakeups in the show's cast come across as sudden and - dare we say it? - suspicious. Is Daisy Parker's unexpected appearance as The Diva truly elevating the production? Or is Derek just being Derek? Whatever the story is, we're sure it won't be long before we all know every last detail...

Meanwhile, it looks like all our prayers were powerless to mend the rift between Julia Houston and Tom Levitt. Friend and producer Eileen Rand's attempt to signal all was well with a revue of the pair's songs took on a different tenor when news leaked of the team's official split. Call it nostalgia, or just the result of canny timing, but now the entire Broadway community has Houston and Levitt at the forefront of their minds...

Fade out on a girl: NBC has cancelled its Broadway drama Smash, TVLine has confirmed.

The sophomore series’ end seemed a foregone conclusion in March when the Peacock Net announced the show’s move from Tuesday to Saturday. At the time, showrunner Josh Safran told TVLine, “We’re all aware the show is not successful, but I guess I had hoped we would see what happened when The Voice came back [or] maybe they’d move us to a better time slot.”

The show opened its sophomore season with just 4.5 million total viewers and a 1.1 demo rating, plunging 25 and 39 percent from its freshman finale and both marking series lows. A few weeks later, NBC made the decision to move Smash to Saturdays.

Real-life behind the scenes drama led to creator Theresa Rebeck leaving the show after its first season; she has since publicly called Season 2 “a complete disaster.”

Smash will wrap with a two-hour series finale on a special night: Sunday, May 26 (9/8c).
